Baker Stand-In—ECA-Mass Takes it to the State House

Posted on Feb 1, 2018 | Legislative News

The “Stand for Baker” campaign was organized by Mass Power Forward, a coalition of over 150 climate-change organizations in the Boston area that has been a key source of information and coordination for ECA-Mass on legislative action. The aim of the campaign is to get Governor Baker to sign an executive order that would direct state employees to do everything in their legal authority to prevent new gas infrastructure projects from advancing in the Commonwealth, and to proceed with implementation of the Global Warming Solutions Act.

The Stand-In held a silent vigil, holding signs outside the Governor’s office on the 3rd floor of the Massachusetts State House. The Campaign began in mid-September, with more than 30 Stand-Ins over the course of two months. ECA-Mass made an important contribution – 20 of our members participated in about 50 shifts.

The Stand-In culminated with a large demonstration on November 17th, coinciding with the final day of the COP23 climate accord meeting in Bonn, Germany.

Despite our strong presence, Governor Baker has not taken appropriate action, nor has he agreed to meet with the Mass Power Forward coalition. Therefore, we will regroup and continue the pressure toward sane climate policy in Massachusetts.
